We’re thrilled to announce our Coats and Clark holiday guest blogging and pinning series. Some of your favorite sewing experts, designers, and bloggers will be sharing and inspiring us with holiday themed articles and amazing pins.

We begin with Liesl Gibson, the designer and author behind the oh so loved brand Oliver + S. She’ll be kicking off this fun campaign with a special board for us on Pinterest sharing her style and favorite things.

Hi, I’m Liesl Gibson, and I’m so happy to be guest posting and pinning for this project!

As the holidays near, I like to look back on the previous year and think about things that have inspired me. This year I’ve realized that one of my biggest inspirations has been all the wonderful ways our Oliver + S  customers have customized my patterns to make unique, handmade items for their children.

If you’re not familiar with Oliver + S, one of the best places to learn about this brand is by visiting our Flickr group. This is the twenty-first-century version of the old sew-and-show that happened in local fabric stores and sewing clubs over the past couple of centuries. As of today, there are over 15,000 photos in the group. All of them have been contributed by women (and a few very brave men!) who have sewn garments for the children and grandchildren from Oliver + S patterns.
This year I noticed more and more images here of clothing that starts with an Oliver + S pattern and takes the original pattern in a completely new, creative direction. We’ve been running a series of posts on the Oliver + S blog that feature some of my favorite customizations. (You can see all the posts in the series by following this link .
Here are some of the sorts of things we’ve featured:
·         An amazing outfit that ended up winning this year’s Project Run and Play competition

·         A wonderful rugby shirt made from one of our dress patterns

·         A jaw-dropping Snow White dress created especially for a visit to Disney world
But my favorite customization of all time has to be this Evel Knievel costume

It’s unbelievably great, isn’t it?
