We’ve had a crush on the blog Lia Space for some time now. And even though Lia’s taken a hiatus from blogging to run her coffee shop, One Fifteenth (which looks amazing; too bad for us it’s in Indonesia!), we wanted to show you some of the amazing tutorials you can find on her blog. Some crafters just have a knack for oozing fun projects, using loads of color and bold prints, and she’s one of them.
A lot of Lia’s sewing projects are inspired by requests from friends for party favors, which means super fun custom pouches and bags—projects that are easy to do and don’t take too long to make. We love Lia’s tendency to use up scraps and her unique appliqué and embellishment ideas (check out this diamond smocking tutorial).
We’ll keep our fingers crossed that Lia makes her way back to the Internet soon with more of her trademark fun and easy DIY goodness! In the meantime, here are 5 of our favorite hand-sewn projects complete with instructions and patterns.
These super cute bags were sewn up as party goodies, but really the options are endless. It’s reversible and the appliqués provide lots of fun opportunities for decorative top-stitching and mixing and matching.
These seahorses are our favorite! So cute. What’s great about the tutorial is that there are two patterns, depending on how involved you want to get with the tail and whether or not you have a loop turner. If not, seahorses with stubby tails are cute too!
Diaper pouches make great, no-fail gifts because you can sew up a couple—one for mom and dad and one for the grandparents or sitter—and package them up with some store-bought diapers. This would make a great beginners project for learning how to install a zipper too.
This is a perfect example of the type of project you’ll find over at Lia Space. Fun and simple with a touch of wacky. What little girl wouldn’t go gaga over this?
When it comes to fashionable versatility, you can’t beat this multi-reversible cap. Sure it’s great because its reversible, but it also can be worn as a scarf and adapted to your skill level: Keep it simple and sew as directed, or step it up a notch and play with sizing and added embellishments.
You’ll want to keep this blog bookmarked because it’s full of even more great gift sewing!
