Denim makes this bag extra-durable, a must-have for an active child. Ric-rac is the perfect trimming for the roof detail so that the texture and shape are easy to accomplish. A separate fabric for the roofing adds to the super cute details but also helps separate the zippered end from the bottom to help with quick access to the interior. The striping on the top fabric further adds to the look of shingles — how perfect!

One of our favorite details has to be the door, which doubles as a small zippered pocket that is perfect for tucking away important notes for the teacher or lunch money that won’t get lost. The zipper runs vertically with the door frame so it’s easier to tuck things in and it almost looks like a long handle! Have some fun with decorative stitches for the stems of the flowers that run along the bottom of the bag, and use flower-shaped buttons that make for a super cute three-dimensional accent that you don’t have to construct yourself.

The Tiny House Backpack is sized perfectly to fit the essentials but not so bulky that your little one won’t want to carry it. It features adjustable straps that can be made with simple belting accessories found in any chain fabric retailer. They’ve been constructed here with denim out of a binding strip which adds durability with the multiple layers, but still blends seamlessly with the rest of the bag; it’s great to use your existing fabric so you can cut down on materials. The hook is essential so you can keep your handmade creation up and off the floor!
